Our cashmere comes from Mongolia — the independent country situated between Russia and China, not the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia. We work directly with friends and suppliers in Mongolia and visit regularly.

Our garments are produced entirely in Mongolia, from the raw cashmere through to the finished piece. Keeping production in Mongolia allows more of the value created by its exceptional natural fibre to remain within the local economy.

Mongolia’s goats live in an extreme climate, with bitterly cold winters and hot, dry summers. To protect themselves, they develop an exceptionally fine, warm undercoat. This fibre is combed out in spring and transformed into the soft, insulating cashmere used in our pieces.

Not necessarily. “Mongolian cashmere” is sometimes used loosely to describe cashmere associated with the wider region, including Inner Mongolia in China. Hero Cashmere specifically uses cashmere sourced and made in Mongolia.

Some light pilling is natural, particularly when a new garment is first worn and in areas exposed to friction. It is not necessarily a sign of poor quality. Remove pills gently with a cashmere comb; they should reduce as the garment settles.

Wash by hand in cool water, or use a gentle wool or cashmere cycle if your machine is suitable. Use a small amount of wool detergent, avoid fabric softener and never wring the garment. Reshape it while damp and dry it flat, away from direct heat.

Clean your cashmere before storing it and fold it rather than hanging it, as hangers can distort the shape. Keep it in a breathable storage bag with cedar or another natural moth deterrent.
